What is a Charter School?
Wondering why so many Franklin County families choose a charter school like Wake Preparatory Academy? Think of us as a tuition‑free public school with an entrepreneurial spirit. Our charter lets us shape lessons around the students in front of us—rolling out hands‑on science labs for budding engineers, leadership workshops for future changemakers, and targeted support when a concept needs more practice. Free from district‑level red tape, our teachers can test fresh ideas, tweak the curriculum on the fly, and focus on whatever helps each child thrive. In short, we keep the public‑school promise of open access, then add the freedom to tailor learning so every student finds their best path.
At Wake Prep, the school day is as much about character as it is about coursework. Our teachers thread the R.A.I.S.E. values—Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Service, and Excellence—through every lesson, group project, and after‑school activity, so students walk out knowing how to solve equations and how to lead with purpose. From our vibrant Pre‑K classrooms to senior‑year capstone projects, we challenge children across Franklin County to dream big, work hard, and believe in their own potential. Curious to see how it all comes together? Schedule a tour today and experience the Wake Prep difference firsthand.

Crystal Cleveland, Director K-6
She received her degree from Southern Virginia University and ventured out west to see the adventures it had to offer. She joined the Charter One family in Arizona and has had the privilege of serving its families for the past five years, During that time she had the chance to R.A.I.S.E little leaders from kindergarten to fourth grade. She has enjoyed working with students, watching them challenge themselves in the classroom, and finding joy in their learning. She is thrilled to be a part of building Wake Prep Academy in North Carolina.
